VMware Partners with Savvis to Deliver Hybrid Cloud Service

VMware has announced a North American hosting partnership with Savvis, as well as the general availability of VMware vCloud Hybrid Service.
The announcement was made by VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger during the VMworld 2013 General Session keynote speech.
The partnership will include VMware vCloud Hybrid Service being deployed to Savvis data centers in Canada and the US and included in Savvis’ cloud orchestration roadmap.
It will also include the development of complementary, secure low-latency network services for VMware vCloud Hybrid Service customers using the global network of Savvis parent company CenturyLink.
“Building on VMware’s longstanding relationship with Savvis, this alliance will enable new and existing business applications to run seamlessly both on- and off-premises,” said Bill Fathers, senior VP and general manager of Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit for VMware. “Customers can gain new data center locations for VMware vCloud Hybrid Service and complementary network, colocation, hosting and managed services from Savvis to accelerate their move to cloud.”
The hosting partnership expands a partnership which has already proven fruitful to both companies. Savvis recently announced the launch of its Cloud Data Center, which makes use of the VMware vCloud Director platform.
“Savvis is proud to expand our VMware partnership to integrate our offerings with VMware vCloud Hybrid Service,” said Jeff Von Deylen, president of Savvis. ” Hybrid cloud customers are looking for the kind of secure, low-latency network connectivity solutions that Savvis and CenturyLink can provide.”
Savvis also recently joined the Cloud Foundry Community Advisory Board.
This latest move for VMware caps a flurry of activity as the company seeks to maintain a leading position among platform providers in the face of challenges from open source options, as well as traditional competitors like AWS.
Industry speculation is that the VMware-Savvis partnership will continue to expand to Savvis data centers in other markets.
